The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
By E.L.Splice Thursday March 10, 2005
 | | In this scene, the ensemble cast journey's inside the human body to find the remains of Osmosis Jones. | | There will always be a special fondness reserved for Bill Murray among the MovieCall regulars: the way he shrugs off the typical Hollywood celebrity status, his wise-ass retorts, and a certain understated presence— an emotional resonance— that at times makes you want to laugh and cry at the same time. He is a unique performer: so unique that when he takes on a role it is impossible to imagine anyone else playing it. In Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou we see all of Murray’s best traits coming through.

Rabbit Proof Fence
By E.L.Splice Tuesday November 30, 2004
If you’re anything like me, the number one thing keeping you from seeing the movie Rabbit Proof Fence is that you don’t have a clue what it’s about. The title brings a lot of imagery to mind, but it certainly doesn’t hint at the potent story that Rabbit Proof Fence tells.
The title refers to a fence in Australia that literally divides the continent in half. Running the length of Australia, like a belt around its waist, the fence was designed to keep rabbits out of the farmland on the western side of the island. This is the home of our heroines Molly, Daisy and Gracie, three Aboriginal girls who live near an outpost along the fence.
The movie is set in the 1930s during a time when the Australian government gave itself power over the Aborigines, the natives of Australia. One of its laws stated that any children born to a mixed couple, aboriginal and white, could be taken from their families and given to a white family at the government’s discretion. These children are referred to as half-castes, and the government takes it upon themselves to see that these children are submerged in the “superior” white culture. In a chilling scene, Mr. Neville (Kenneth Branagh), the head of Aboriginal Affairs, demonstrates that if the children continue to copulate with other whites, the origins of their race will vanish in three generations.

Those "Real" Dolls
Tuesday October 11, 2005
I couldn't find our original thread on this, but an article in Salon answers the question of what a lonely guy with one of these f**k-puppets should do if he ever achieves a relationship. (That and a whole lot of other stuff you may or may not want to know about these people.)

Brokeback Mountain! Review: Boy's Gone Wild!
Sunday January 08, 2006
Well...
Trick and I looked at each other when the credits started rolling, and asked each other, "How the hell do we create a mantastic review of THIS movie?" We've been waiting months in anticipation for this studly display of manhood. The girls here at Boy Patrol are WELL versed in the talents of Ang Lee, one of our favorite films being Sensibility. Lee has a true talent for assisting the cast for displaying immense emotional subtly and also a hauntingly beautiful atmosphere. Needless to say, Mr. Ang Lee, we want your babies.
