Since the Valentines Day of 2002, our organization has been dedicated to offering movie review alternatives on the internet and to the world. While most other movie critics have clung to the same rating system (involving stars, thumbs and meaningless numbers) we've gone outside the system to offer the reader a new vocabulary for movie reviews. It started with a basic idea. Simplify the review process and turn into something that people can understand and connect to their own lives. Find a movie that is middle of the road, not exceptional, but not a failure, from which all other movies can be compared. In this way the reviews allow the reader to draw from their own experience and allow for the individual to define their own tastes with our reviews as a guide.

So we decided that henceforth all movies will be compared to Booty Call.

However, we didn't stop there. We made real attempts to connect to our readers and give them a voice in the Movie Call community. We pioneered such innovations as the stone drunk review, the love advice column Ask Mattmanuel and the award winning Hollywood Happy Hour with writer/director Daniel Strange.

Q: Why do you compare every movie to Booty Call?

A: We were trying to find another way of reviewing movies outside of the typical star system. This allows for a more accurate rating system because you can get a better context for the movie we're reviewing. For example we can rate a movie by saying, "It's not as funny as Booty Call but I'd still say it was better than Booty Call." So it's less subjective because you can form your own opinions about the movie based on your impressions of the film Booty Call.

Better than Booty Call = A film that was better than Booty Call

A little bit better than Booty Call = A film that is somewhat better than Booty Call

As good as Booty Call = A film as good as Booty Call

Not nearly as good as Booty Call = A film far worse in its production values than Booty Call
