Room With A View
Wednesday, July 16, 2003
I think this qualifies as Hoached-Up talk...
I just had one of those Revenge Of The Nerds, screwball teen sex comedy moments similar to seeing a hot woman undress in the upstairs window with the shades open.
I'm at work on the 2nd floor of my building, making some copies, and I look down and there's an SUV parked below. In the passenger seat is a woman with a short white skirt. The man in the driver's seat reaches over and starts fingering her. He's going full on at it. She lifts her leg and puts her foot on the armrest. Her skirt is all up in the air. My whole office came over to watch. And they're just going it at.
Then a cop walks by and the games end.
I LOVE NEW YORK.

Diary of a Band: The Demo
Wednesday, July 16, 2003
Singer situation has been settled. Pal and I are singing. Songs are coming along, we're up to almost 8. So it's time to start getting shows. We need a demo.
If anyone has every tried to record a loud rock band in a 10' x 10' room on a home-recording device, you know this is virtually impossible without tracking everything. And that takes time. And then there's mixing. And then there's the fact that we don't have a home-recording device. So no dice, we had to go to a studio to record.
So Crossbow went into the studio! After an extensive search we settled on a place called The Batcave in Manhattan. It was recommended by a friend of a friend and it was significantly cheaper than anywhere else. Plus, they recorded White Zombie early in their career. Since we were only recording a rough demo to send out to get shows, we thought the recording and all would only take a couple of hours. Hell, we were only recording 3 songs. Boy, were we fuckin' wrong.
Our first session was 4 hours - 2 1/2 hours of set-up, an hour of rock and a 1/2 of clean-up. Then we had to go back the next week to record vocals. 3 more hours. THEN we had to go back and mix. 3 MORE hours. And we're paying by the hour. But it was all worth it. We got to record in a real studio, with a real engineer, and on 1/2 tape, rather than digital. All in all, it's much better than we originally thought it was going to be considering that we were just expecting a decent live recording. It all went smoothly, but we ended up spending twice as much as we wanted to.
We're sending out the CDs now to start booking shows for mid-to-late August. Hopefully coming to a town near you soon. Here's the fruits of our labor:

Van Helsing
Friday, June 20, 2003
Ladies...
So this could potentially be an awesome movie, with Wolverine as Van Helsing fighting Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolf Man. I looked for footage of this at the licensing show, but it was tough to get in the Paramount booth without an appointment.
I did get a Van Helsing shopping bag, though, which I proceeded to throw out when I got back to the office. It was a dula advertisement for that and the live-action Thunderbirds movie.

FRIDAY THE 13TH
Friday, June 13, 2003
Hey Horror Fans,
Happy Friday the 13th!
Go out and rent parts 1,2, or 4. All the others pretty much blow (some might argue part 3 - I'm looking in your direction Daniel Strange).
Get ready for some major rock and horror updates next week including reviews of all the new Zeppelin shit, Wrong Turn and the 15 minutes of Hellboy footage I saw at the annual Licensing Show.
Awesome
